Dub Poetry broke out in the late seventies thanks to Linton Kwesi Johnson’s album Dread Beat an’ Blood; although still very much alive and well today Dub Poetry reached the height of its popularity in the eighties and nineties.
Where Dub Poetry left off on the mixing board is exactly where Wake Poetry begins with live jazz: Spoken word brought to life by today’s jazz masters and urban poets; a movement fronted by Wakefield Brewster.
Wakefield’s new project Two Too Many seeks to take off where LKJ’s Dread Beat left off; bringing rich, timeless organic music to the audiences of urban poets; and brokun werd poetree to the minds of jazz aficionados.
